UNDATED (AP) — No. 8 Tennessee visits 25th-ranked LSU in the lone Top 25 matchup in the Southeastern Conference this weekend. Quarterback Hendon Hooker leads the nation’s top offense into Tiger Stadium, where the last three meetings haven’t been settled until the last play. The Tigers have won four straight games, overcoming double-digit deficits to beat both Auburn and No. 23 Mississippi State. It’s the first time both have entered the game ranked since the 2007 SEC Championship Game, when the fifth-ranked Tigers beat No. 14 Tennessee 21-14. LSU has won the last five meetings.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — First-year LSU coach Brian Kelly hasn’t been celebrating the fact that the Tigers are back in national rankings for the first time in more than a year. Kelly says the Tigers have to raise their game considerably to contend with a challenging stretch of the schedule that includes a visit from No. 8 Tennessee on Saturday. The game also represents arguably the toughest test yet for the Volunteers as they look to start 5-0 for the first time since 2016. Tennessee’s 559.3 yards per game leads the nation. But none of the Vols’ previous four opponents are currently ranked. LSU comes in having won four straight.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 23 Mississippi State is ranked for the first time this season and riding a two-game winning streak entering Saturday’s game against Arkansas. The Bulldogs have surpassed 40 points in beating Bowling Green and Texas A&M. The Razorbacks have dropped their past two to Texas A&M and Alabama. Their biggest question is whether quarterback KJ Jefferson will play after leaving the Alabama game after hitting his head.

UNDATED (AP) — The newly top-ranked Crimson Tide and now-unranked Aggies will face off Saturday night in a grudge match forged by last season’s 41-38 Texas A&M upset and the coaches’ infamous war of words. Both starting quarterbacks are listed as day to day. Alabama’s Heisman Trophy-winning QB Bryce Young is nursing a shoulder injury. Texas A&M’s Max Johnson hurt his hand in last week’s game.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Second-ranked Georgia will try to regain momentum when it plays Auburn in a Southeastern Conference game. The Bulldogs fell from the top spot in The Associated Press Top 25 this week after having to rally for a 26-22 win at Missouri. The major scare at Missouri followed a similarly uninspiring 39-22 win over Kent State. Auburn experienced the other side of a big comeback last week, leaving more pressure on embattled coach Bryan Harsin. The Tigers led LSU 17-0 before losing 21-17. Harsin would receive a much-needed boost if Auburn can end a streak of five straight losses in the series with Georgia.

UNDATED (AP) — Ranked for the first time this season, No. 23 Mississippi State goes after a third straight victory when it hosts Arkansas in SEC play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 42-24 victory over No. 17 Texas A&M while the Razorbacks aim to halt a two-game slide after losing to top-ranked Alabama. MSU features dynamic quarterback Will Rogers and opportunistic cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, who picked off passes last week. Arkansas counters with the nation’s No. 2 sack attack led by linebacker Drew Sanders. The Razorbacks could be without quarterback KJ Jefferson, who’s questionable with a head injury.

UNDATED (AP) — Missouri and Florida meet Saturday with both teams looking for their first Southeastern Conference victory. The Tigers are coming off consecutive nail-biters against Auburn and No. 2 Georgia. They missed a short field goal at the end of regulation that would have beaten Auburn and squandered a 10-point lead in the final 10 minutes against Georgia. Missouri’s most league win came last November against the Gators, a 24-23 stunner in overtime that prompted Florida to fire coach Dan Mullen the following day. The Gators have dropped six straight in SEC play. It’s tied for the program’s longest skid since losing 11 in a row between 1945 and 1948.

UNDATED (AP) — Early-season firings have gone for normalized to the norm in college football. As the season heads toward Week 6, five coaches have already been sacked, at least one every week since Sept. 11 when Nebraska cut loose Scott Frost. Last Sunday was the first with two firings: Colorado parted ways with Karl Dorrell and Wisconsin made a shocking dismissal of Paul Chryst. Generally, an in-season coaching change signals a lost season, but with so many games left the messaging has to include trying to salvage what’s left.
